“ 4 out of 10 Scripted Broadcast Shows have more activity on GetGlue than on Twitter / 9 out of 10 Scripted CABLE Shows see more engagement on Get Glue
As research based on ComScore, Nielsen and GetGlue data shows, loyal fans and followers of scripted shows might increasingly opt for specialized TV companion apps like GetGlue to share the banter. Although GetGlue has about 1m users vs Twitters 140 million users.
Twitter is still the tool of choice for live events like the GRAMMY’s or Olympics, but for character and plot driven shows, the deeper engagement might be moving on dedicated fan communities. However, to put things into perspective: a new episode of “The Big Bang Theory” draws around 12 million viewers. GetGlue + Twitter combined would accumulate to a social audience of under 65,000 people - less than 1 percent of CBS’s total. Applying the same math to HBO’s “True Blood,” the most social show on cable, shows a 3 percent social audience scare.
But: these are still the very early days of Social TV and we can expect to see an exponential uptake of 2nd screen engagement in the coming months.
